Travel, Self-Care and Hair
Greetings from a Sunset & Margarita Lover.
I am Pitsi Sathekge a Johannesburg-based Travel Curator, entrepreneur, and lifestyle creator. I started creating travel content in 2021. My goal was always to create content that would resonate with my real-life experiences to empower and encourage people to travel- at any budget. I have since come to work with amazing brands that have helped me understand the importance of my overall self-care when traveling – like how to incorporate good care for my skin & hair when I am away.. my goal has always been to build an online community of like-minded travel enthusiasts who seek wanderlust.
Being in this travel space has allowed me opportunities to see the gaps in the industry and take up space in those areas. I have since started my own Travel Agency focusing mainly on solo Travel Group trips. This has allowed me to bring strangers who turn into friends together. All of this while connecting with many amazing, beautiful & interesting individuals with whom I now share lifelong memories.
Like I said, along with travel comes some serious self-care- and I’m not referring to the last-minute ‘maintenance’ day that takes up a chunk of our budget just before a trip. I’ve come to learn the do’s and don’ts of hair care when traveling. If you follow my page you’ll know I am a natural hair babe, and while I love my Afro- traveling with it out can be quite the inconvenience.
My top 3 hairstyles for traveling are:
- Goddess/Boho Braids, simply because they scream ‘island girl’ before we even land at our destination.
- Feed-in braids are simple, low maintenance, and ideal if you don’t want to stress about your hair on vacation.
- Fulani Braids, simply put is a combination of the above-mentioned hairstyles. I love Fulani braids because you can play around with the stitch designs and you have the freedom to wear your hair up or down unlike with feed-in braids the hair pretty much stays the same.
Braids are a go-to option when traveling as a natural hair girlie, not only do they keep my hair protected, but they are trendy, stylish, and forever evolving- simply put have you SEEN black girls in braids? * chefs kiss*
My favorite song at the moment is: Usher – Superstar
My favorite travel location: Knysna
